MORRISON, Colo. – Grunge, rock and soul are what you’re sure to get from the Australian group John Butler Trio every time they hit the stage. For whatever reason, this time spectators could sense the added energy between the rocks that was provided throughout the night. Butler himself, the lead singer and founder of the band, thanked those attending and mentioned how special it was to make what was now their fifth appearance at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheater.

The June 10, sold-out show, roughly 9,500 plus, provided attendees with beautiful music and an outstanding atmosphere. Opening for the historic Aussie band was Tash Sultana. The 23-year-old, also a native of Austrailia, provided the spark that got the show going. She opened with her iconic song called “Electric Feels,” which captivated the audience.

Music lover Abbie Westin said,“My friend and I flew out here from Minneapolis just to see her as the opener. We didn’t know much about John Butler Trio, but knew we couldn’t miss seeing her perform here at Red Rocks.” This was her first ever visit to Red Rocks and said it was a special night.

After the stunning opening act of Sultana concluded the anticipation of seeing John Butler Trio was heightening. Fans made their last second efforts to go to the restroom, grab a refreshment, and get back into their standing room spots before they hit the stage.

Moments after the stage lights began flashing around the crowd, a prosperous guitar solo swept through the speakers and people began to scream. It was time. The trio opened with their new song “Wade in the Water.” The trio also preformed one of its most well-known song entitled “Ocean” during the evening. The song included a multitude of solos on the guitar, drums, and bongos which put everyone in a groovy mood and set the tone for the remainder of the night.

Amidst the hot temperatures throughout the night, it didn’t seem to phase the audience. Fans were dancing throughout the set and cheering for the band which seems to spread so much positivity through their lyrical messages and musical rhythms.

The band ended the night by brining out Tash Sultana to perform the song “Better Than” alongside of them, in which Sultana added her own twist on the song performing a guitar solo that made the place go crazy.

If you missed your chance to see them, keep your eye out for future dates as they will likely return for a sixth appearance next year at Red Rocks.

I like how you added the comment made by Abbie, and how she came to see Tash all the way from Minnesota. Some people are that crazy to fly out to see their favorite artist like that.

Great article Kyle! I felt like I was in the audience at Red Rocks listening to the bands and I’m inspired to go to one of their other shows.
