DENVER — Cold weather didn’t cool the crowd’s enthusiasm when President Barack Obama spoke to about 16,000 people at City Park in Denver, Oct. 24.

“I’m going to work until he wins,” volunteer Ledy Fouchér said.

Obama rallied the crowd amidst their chants of “four more years.” He said this election is about trust and referenced promises he had kept, such as ending the war in Iraq and the repeal of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell.’

“I’ve come to ask you for your vote,” Obama said, as he encouraged attendees to not only vote themselves but to help get others to vote.

The President addressed key issues including jobs for veterans, clean energy, LGBT rights, equal pay, education and immigration.

“We are all created equal…no matter who you are…here in America, you can make it if you try,” Obama said.

The President then shifted his focus to the economy. “I want you to compare my plan to Gov. Romney’s,” he said. “See which plan is better for America’s future.”

Obama spoke of ‘Romnesia,’ and said Gov. Romney hopes the American people will forget that top-down economic plans got us into this mess. “His [Romney’s] economic plan is more likely to create jobs in China,” he said.

Gov. John Hickenlooper, Mayor Michael Hancock, Colo. Congresswoman Diana DeGette and others spoke at the event, urging people to vote and get others to vote for President Obama.

“Now it’s time to guard the change,” Mayor Hancock said. “This election may very well come down to Colorado.”

Recent polls show Gov. Romney with a slight lead in Colorado. Romney made a campaign stop at Red Rocks on Oct. 23 and spoke to a crowd of about 10,000 people.

This is President Obama’s 11th visit to Colorado in 2012, and his 12th event. It is part of his 2-day “Forward America” tour that targets six swing states.

“This may not be the last time you’ll see me,” Obama said.
