The Tattered Cover opened its first store back in 1971 in the Cherry Creek district of Denver. The store had only two employees and a small 950 square foot retail area. The Tattered Cover has grown over the last 40 years into one of America’s premier bookstores with three locations in the Denver Metro-area.
The Tattered Cover is part of a license agreement with the Hudson Group, a leading travel retailer which supplies the existing airport bookstores, Hudson Booksellers. Final plans for booksellers in DIA include the construction of two more Tattered Cover bookstores along with five Hudson Newsstands.
“Hudson group paid for the remodel, since it is their concept. They lease the space from DIA and provide us with a portion of their monthly revenue,” said Heath Montgomery, director of Media Relations for DIA. Two newsstands were added to the east and a west end of the B Concourse and another is planned to open later this month in the A Concourse.

“Our customers have been delighted by the addition of the Tattered Cover,” said Kim Day, manager of Aviation for Denver. “This Colorado brand brings a specially curated selection of reading material that raises the bar for airport book stores, and continues our efforts to offer a better variety of shops and amenities for our customers.”
In celebration of the second DIA store opening, the Tattered Cover in Concourse A will host bestselling author Dave Barry on March 11. He will be signing copies of his newest book “You Can Date Boys When You’re Forty.”
Boarding passes are required to access the bookstore in this location.
