DENVER — The party scene in Denver consists of The View House, Beta Nightclub and Brother’s Bar. These places offer drinks, dancing and a mix of today’s most popular music. They all offer their own unique type of atmosphere. The View House offers a sleek and sophisticated feel. Beta Nightclub has a crazy modern day twist to their nightclub. Brother’s Bar has a laid back and relaxing feel when enjoying an evening there. But there is just one place that never gets the recognition it deserves among the Denver crowd, the Grizzly Rose, 5450 N. Valley Hwy.
The Grizzly Rose is a unique sight in the Denver area. Denver isn’t exactly as country as it seems, so it’s a warm welcome for the people that want to try and get back to their roots and get away from all these “city slickers.” It is also a great place for anyone who wants to experience a different kind of nightlife.
“The Rose,” as the regulars call it, has its own crowd just like any other place in Denver. When the doors open up a mix of old and young will immediately come into play. There are people from the ages of 18 to 80. And on Sunday nights anyone under 18 is allowed in until 11 p.m. There is no division of age groups when it comes to this dancehall.
And speaking of dancing, there is no “grinding” that goes on here. The only type of dancing that’s seen here is completely parent approved. Couples can be seen doing anything from swing to slow dancing. In fact that is a huge reason why people go there.
“I’ve taught about 15 girls to dance tonight,” said Adam Stanfill. “I don’t come here a lot, but I love to dance.” Stanfill, who hails from Cheyenne, Wyo., had been going around to every girl he could find that was sitting down and asking them to dance. “The girl doesn’t have to do anything when you dance. She just has to follow what I do.”
Stanfill was not the only avid dancer looking for a partner. There was also a man, who simply introduced himself as Bob, that stood out in the crowd. Bob, who is in his late 70’s comes to the Grizzly Rose every Sunday to dance with anyone that will dance with him. With his cowboy hat and Wrangler jeans, he was dressed to impress with the look of an old school cowboy.
“I love dancing. I love dancing with anyone who will dance with me,” said Bob. “I can’t do all that fancy twisting that those young guys can do but I do love to dance.”
Couples dancing isn’t the only type of dancing going on. Guests of The Rose can also join the rest of the patrons for some good old line dancing. The Grizzly Rose offers free classes on Wednesdays for anyone that wants to learn the dances, but doesn’t have the financial ability to do so. This way, no one will be left out of the mix.
The Grizzly Rose is one of the most unique places Denver has to offer. It is not unique in the way that there’s nothing like it within the state, it is more unique in the way that it is so different from any other place in Denver. There is a positive vibe that comes from the place and every night can be a new experience. There is constant live entertainment that can appeal to any age. It is truly a stop in Denver that needs to be made.

I’ve never been to the Grizzly Rose and, before this article, I thought I had a good enough impression of it not to warrant a visit. I mean–if you’ve seen one country bar–you’ve seen them all, right?

    Well I was wrong.

There’s definitely more to this bar that meets the eye, just another reason to not judge by it’s cover, but its contents.

The Grizzly Rose is an extremely under appreciated venue. You definitely encourage giving this venue a chance to prove itself as more than just another country bar through your writing. Great job!
